Thoubal, July 15 2024:
BJP leader Thokchom Jadumani of Khangabok assembly constituency has questioned the fairness of blaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting Manipur to address the Meetei-Kuki clashes, and posed whether the then Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao visited the state during the Naga-Kuki conflicts from 1992 to 1997 or the Meetei-Pangal feud in 1992-93 .
Addressing media persons at his Khangabok residence on Monday, Jadumani contended that the current humanitarian crisis in Manipur is fallout of policies of the Congress party during its rule.
He pointed out that under the Congress government, there were no restrictions on poppy plantations and illegal immigrants were allowed entry due to the Free Movement Regime (FMR), while the state had no Inner Line Permit (ILP) system and National Register of Citizens (NRC), all abetting surge in narco-terrorism and large-scale poppy cultivation.
Jadumani emphasised that it was only after chief minister N Biren Singh initiated the War on Drugs, banned poppy plantations, abolished the Free Movement Regime, implemented ILP, and pursued for NRC that narco-terrorists began to scheme violence in Manipur.
He further stated that the government is giving its all to control the situation as could be comprehended from Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other national leaders having visited the state.
The chief minister remains in constant touch with the Prime Minister regarding the crisis in the state.
Amid such relentless efforts, the Congress party is hell-bent on misleading the public and tarnishing reputation of CM Biren, he maintained.
Further stating that inspite of bagging two Lok Sabha seats, the Congress MPs claim they are powerless, emphasising that it is the ruling government's responsibility to act.
Therefore, the public need to recognise the efforts made by CM Biren, he said while adding that a general cannot be replaced during wartime and urged people not to support the Congress party's insistence on the Chief Minister's resignation or imposition of President's Rule in Manipur.
