Body demands action against 10 MLAs

Imphal, May 15 2023:
An eight-member delegation of Citizens for Justice Manipur (CJM) met Governor Anusuiya Uikey and submitted a memoran-dum raising several issues and demands in the wake of the violent clash.
Addressing a press confer-ence at Manipur Press Club here on Monday after sub-mitting the memorandum, CJM chairman Khaidem Mani said that similar copies of the memorandum will also be submitted to chief min-ister, speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly and state security advisor.
In the memorandum, the forum is demanding unbiased relief measures to people of all communities under the su-pervision of Supreme Court, stopping So0 cadres from using firearms and roaming freely in violation of ground rules of the So0 agreement and proper utilisation of RAF troops among others.
RAF was not sent to pro-tect Imphal city but for de-ployment in affected areas to control the violence.
Since they are deployed to protect the public, the public has every right to know about their situation and instruc-tions, he said.
Stating that attempts are being made to depict the violence as a com-munal clash, he demanded a high level judicial enquiry led by a retired chief justice of High Court of Supreme Court of India.
Khaidem Mani also con-demned the separate admin-istration demand raised by 10 MLAs and said that actions should be taken up against them for issuing unethical statements, which is unbe-coming of an elected public representative.
They might have issued the statement under threat or willingly, but the remaining 50 MLAs should make their stand pub-lic against such attempt to disintegrate the state and instigate communal ill-feel-ings among the public.
None of the MLAs were sworn in as Kuki MLA or Naga MLA or Meetei MLA of Meetei Pangal MLA.
The statement of the 10 MLAs amounts to miscon-duct of their duty and re-sponsibilities, he contended.
He appealed to security advisor to the government of Manipur visit affected zones like Moreh, Churachandpur and Kangpokpi to assess the situation.
Mani also appealed to the government to relax curfew Imphal and other areas, where there is no more vi-olence, from 5 am to 5 pm while adding that relaxing the curfew from 5 am to 12 noon is not enough to sustain lives of common people.
Joining the media briefing, CJM vice-chairperson Nou-tuneshwari appealed to all concerned to stop demand-ing separate area for each community and called for concerted efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
Protest staged against attacks on civilians CHRONICLE NEWS SERVICE IMPHAL: Chanura Yaipha Thou-rang Lup, Okram Chuthek in association with different Mei-ra Paibi organisations in the area organised a sit-in protest at Lainingthou Haraoshang, Okram Chuthek on Monday decrying the relentless attacks on civilians and their properties.
Protestors shouted slogans against narco-terrorism ac-tivities, attacks on civilians by armed Kuki militants, separate administration demand raised by 10 Kuki MLAs and block-ade on national highways by mob.
They also raised slogans demanding detention of Kuki militants in their respective designated camps, protection of forest land and removal of Assam Rifles from the state.
