Conclave, Ethnopharmacology Congress underway

A three-day International Bioresource Conclave along with the 22nd Congress of the International Society for Ethnopharmacology and the 10th Congress of Society for Ethnopharmacology (ISE SFEC-2023) has begun from Friday at City Convention Centre, here.
The event is being organised by Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development, Imphal in collaboration with Society for Ethnopharmacology, India and International Society for Ethnopharmacology, Switzerland, under the theme 'Reimagine Ethnopharmacology: Globalisation of Traditional Medicine'.
This congress is happening for the first time in Imphal and also in the northeastern region to showcase different initiatives for promotion of bioresourecs and local traditional med icines.
While inaugurating the event as chief guest, union minister of state for education and external affairs Dr RK Ranjan highlighted the unique bioresources and traditional medicines of northeast region, which need to be explored scientifically.
He said that the conference will mainly focus on globalisation of traditional medicines.
ISESFEC 2023 chairman and IBSD director professor Pulok K Mukherjee highlighted various programmes of the Congress wherein more than 105 scientific lectures will be presented by eminent scientists and more than 700 delegates representing over 35 countries and all the states of India are attending.
He said that there will be over 300 oral and poster presentations by young researchers highlighting different aspects on development of bioresources, ethnopharmacology and drug development.
He also highlighted the research activities of IBSD for the development of bioresources and traditional healer's practices of this region for societal benefit and livelihood generation.
Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba welcomed all the delegates from different parts of the globe in Imphal and appreciated the initiative of IBSD in organising the congress in Imphal to showcase and development of unique bioresources the northeast region, and Manipur in particular.
ISE, Switzerland president professor Gunter Vollmer said that the conference is a gala event of the 22nd Congress of the International Society for Ethnopharmacology and the 10th Congress of Society for Ethnopharmacology.
He said that the society not only organise regular meetings and promotes research and publication but also offers multiple ways to exchange information between scientists and anyone else interested in such topics.
Society for Ethnopharmacology, Kolkata president Birendra K Sarkar highlighted various activities of SFE, India, which is affiliated to ISE, Switzerland, and how the society has been working with a mission on 'Globalising local knowledge and localising global technologies'.
Many experts including ISE secretary professor Marco Leonti, SFE vice-presidents Indraneel Das, Dr CK Katiyar, and SFE secretary Dr Subhash C Mandal were also present at the event.
SERB distinguished fellow professor Sudhir K Sopory was awarded with SFE - Lifetime Achievement Award- 2023 for his contribution in plant biology.
During next three days, several special panel discussion sessions such as 'Publication ethics', 'Traditional Healers Conclave', 'Reimagine Ethnopharmacology', 'Herbs in One Health', 'i-Connect program: Business meet' would be organised for the promotion and development of Bioresources and Ethnopharmacology.
The congress will provide an environment for knowledge sharing among researchers, policymakers, industry people, healthcare practitioners, and decision-makers interested in the promotion of bioresources, traditional medicines, ethnopharmacology and drug discovery.
