Imphal, May 09 2024:
Accusing the state government of dillydallying the process of providing relief assistance to all those affected by the hailstorm on May 5, Communist Party of India-Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC) has urged the government to disperse the relief materials at the earliest.
In a statement released to the press, CPI-MSC said that the fierce hailstorm had left around 40,000 houses damaged.
However, even after five days of the natural disaster, the government is yet to provide any relief materials to the affected people, except for announcing suitable compensations.
Mentioning about the chief minister's claim that around 15,825 houses suffered damage in the state, the Council, however, pointed out around 15,749 houses were left damaged in Imphal West district alone.
This shows a huge discrepancy in the data record collection of the government.
In addition, the silence of the State Disaster Management on the matter is questionable, especially in view of the massive presence of central and state forces in the state.
Questioning how much funds the government has utilised for the affected people and where the funds have been utilised, CPI-MSC stressed the need for maintaining transparency and sincerity towards the people.
The Council further statement that the Rs 6.90 crore sanctioned by the government for relief efforts will not be sufficient, while suggesting the utilisation of Local Area Development Fund of the MLAs.
