Kakching, July 21 2024:
Condemning alleged partisan attitude and conduct of central forces, including the Assam Rifles with regard to the on-going violence in the state, Ching Tam Nupi Apunba Lup (China Lup) Pallel has demanded that the para-military forces be removed from Manipur at the earliest.
Addressing media persons at Pallel on Sunday, China Lup, Pallel president Atom Nungshi pointed out that since early days of the crisis people of Manipur have been questioning inaction by the Assam Rifles as and when Meetei villages were attacked apart from strongly reacting against poppy cultivation, and drug trade.
She also accused central Security forces of favouring a particular community instead of containing the violence and rendering indig enous people homeless and refugees in their own land while urging the central and state forces to be impartial in protecting the civilians.
Nunghsi also held the Assam Rifles accountable for the violence protracting and destruction of Meetei houses in Torbung Bangla and Moreh.
She said that during the burning of Meetei houses at Serou, Sugnu and Napat villages by the Kukis, the Assam Rifles acted deaf and dumb, leaving the affected people in anguish.
The Assam Rifles' partisanship could be comprehended from the recent incident in Jiribam where they obstructed state forces and CRPF from conducting search operation after bomb attacks by the Kukis injured/killed a CRPF soldier besides two police personnel, she maintained, adding that all these facts and figures clearly indicate that the Assam Rifles are siding with the Kukis, thereby justifying the people's demand for withdrawal of the Assam Rifles from Manipur
at the earliest.
