Imphal, October 18 2024:
The 75th anniversary of the first Assembly session held on October 18, 1948, and the sixth foundation day of the Museum and Archives of Manipur Legislative Assembly were celebrated at the banquet hall of the Assembly here on Friday.
The celebration was attended by Assembly speaker Th Satyabrata as chief guest, MANIDCO chairman & Mayang Imphal MLA Kongkham Robindro Singh and Kumbi AC MLA Sansam Premchandra Singh as guests of honour, and Assembly secretary Karam Meghajit as president.
In his speech, speaker Satyabrata observed that "when celebrating historical events, many times, we fail to understand why we are celebrating or observing the date, its effect and use in our daily lives.
As such, there is a need for all to understand what the history has taught us and its significance in the future".
He continued that one cannot move forward if he/she continues to maintain silence like a coward, lacks diligence in discharging duties and instead does it perfunctorily.
Stating that the staff of the Museum and Archives play a key role in improving the facility, he urged for cooperation among the staff while sharing inputs with experts.
Satyabrata also invited suggestions from all concerned instead of criticising with regard to the working styles of the MLAs.
Meanwhile, MLA Robindro urged for purposeful dissection and dissemination of facilities available at the Museum and Archives for the benefit of the future generations.
He also called for publishing historical books with well-researched, authentic data.
As part of the celebration, a souvenir was released, followed by a technical session moderated by retired associate professor Dr Birchandra.
