AMWJU condemns attack on Journalists by ILP protestors

All Manipur Working Journalists Union had condemned the attack on journalists who went to cover news on ILP agitations.
It is also reported that Journalists on their way to duty or back from their work place are being targeted by protestors of ILP in these few days.
Uses of abusive words against journalists, physical assault using stick and catapult, snatching of mobile phone, parading in the streets, damaging vehicles are carried on widely by the protestors at various places against working journalists informed vice president of AMWJU.
The Union stated that such act by few miscreants will only malign the ILP movement.
It also stated that if the odd things continue to happen, journalists might compel to stop their duty and subsequently the unavailability of news service in the State.
AMWJU also informed that two police personnel under Bishenpur District verified a journalist through his personal mobile despite identifying through Identity card.
The union also appeals to the higher up to take appropriate action against the police personnel.
The union also stated that the unwanted acts are not welcomed and appealed not to repeat.
It is also informed that such incidents are hampering the right to information at the larger perspective.
