Meet calls for collective action to protect environment

While resolving to create mass awareness across the state on checking further degradation of the environment, Humanism Foundation, Manipur has called upon all sections of the society to work collectively in preserving the ecosystem.
The clarion call to work for maintaining the ecological balance was given during a state level virtual workshop of youth leaders which was held on Saturday in connection with the observance of World Environment Day 2021 with the participation of members of various local civil society organisations.
According to a release of the NGO, DST faculty member of Manipur University's Forestry and Environment Studies Dr Binota Thokchom, who attended the event as resource person, highlighted the present 'pathetic' management of environment as well as situation of water resources in Manipur.
She noted that the state is trailing far behind in all aspects of environment protection and stressed the need for urgent collective resolution among the people in general and the stakeholders in particular to conserve natural resources, environment and to repair the reverse trends.
Highlighting the changing trends of ecosystem of the state, the other participants also called for a result-oriented measures and policies to preserve the environment on urgent basis.
As part of the event, Humanism Foundation planted tree saplings in different parts of the state on Saturday and also launched its 'one house, one tree' campaign to plant at least a tree in every house during the course of the World Environment Day observance.
