Locals condemn bomb threat

Imphal, October 21 2026: Denouncing the attempted bomb attack at the residence of Professor Chinglen Maisnam, Department of South East Asian Studies, Manipur University, located at Chanam Pukhri Mapal, Liwa Lambi, local women today staged a sit-in protest.

The protest was held at Chanam Pukhri Mapal Community Hall jointly organised by Chanam Pukhri Mapal Meira Paibi and the local club.

Speaking in connection with the protest, Meira Paibi secretary Laimayum Ongbi Meena said some unidentified persons came at around 6.30 pm on October 20 and attempted to plant a bomb at the residence of Prof Chinglen.

Strongly condemning the act, she said it was deeply distressing that such an attempt was made at the residence of a teacher and social activist who has been guiding students.

She said if the bomb had exploded, the situation in the locality would have been terrible to imagine.

She further appealed to put an end to such intimidatory practices and ensure that such acts are not repeated in the future.
