Imphal, July 21 2024:
Parents of Phijam Hemanjit have informed that the final rites of their son, who left home on July 6 last year and suspected to have been murdered by Kuki militants, would be performed on July 24 by replacing his body with 'Pangong' as his mortal remains could not be traced till date.
Addressing media persons at their Takyel Kolom Leikai residence on Sunday, Hemanjit's father Phijam Ibungobi citing police report expressed fear that his son along with Linthoingambi could have been slayed and buried in Zoujangtek area.
Consequent to intense pressure by the public on the Governor, the chief minister and the security advisor to government of Manipur for tracing the whereabouts of the missing students, CBI took over the matter and arrested four people including alleged mastermind of the case.
Though charge sheet of the case had been submitted, the bodies of the missing duo are yet to be found, he lamented.
Further stating that parents of both the missing students along with civil society and student organisations had been urging authorities concerned to trace and hand over the bodies so as to perform their last rites, Ibungobi regretted that the government has failed to live up to the people's expectation along with reiterating that the last rites of Hemanjit will be performed on July 24 .
He also shared the pain of families whose members suffered injuries during the public movement in pursuit of the demand to ascertain whereabouts of the two missing students.
