State joins observance of International Nurses' Day

Imphal, May 12 2022: While stating that the state government is aware of the contributions and sacrifices made by the nurses during the Covid-19 pandemic, Health Services director Dr K Rajo has informed that the government is discussing awarding incentives to best performing nurses.

He made the statement during the observance of International Nurses' Day organised under the theme of "Nurses: A Voice to Lead- Invest in Nursing and Respect Rights to Secure Global Health" by Manipur Nursing Council, Lamphel at the multipurpose hall of College of Nursing, Medical Directorate, Lamphel on Thursday.

Speaking as chief guest of the observance, Dr Rajo highlighted that the International Day of Nurses is observed to commemorate the founder of nursing profession and modern nursing Florence Nightingale, in addition to honouring all those working in this profession.

Everyone should be aware of the sacrifices and contributions made by nurses in the society, care of patients and roles played by them in the primary, secondary and tertiary health care sectors.

Lauding the contributions made by nurses in the last 2.5 years of the Covid-19 pandemic, the director contended that the incumbent government is aware of this fact and as such, is discussing awarding incentives to those nurses who have performed their duties sincerely, as a form of encouragement.

He then appealed to those in the nursing profession including new entrants to carry out their duty sincerely and help provide excellent service and care to the people.

The observance was also attended by Medical Directorate joint director (nursing) Lalbiekmoi as president while Manipur Nursing Council registrar Th Nandarani Devi and College of Nursing, Medical Directorate principal Dr N Surbala Devi were present as guests of honour.

As part of the observance, 40 nursing students were presented with Bodhi Nursing Excellence Award 2022 by members of Bodhi Health Education, New Delhi.

On top of this, 10 ANM and GNM students, who were meritorious in the final exam conducted by Nursing Council in October, 2021, were each presented with cash prizes and certificates.

All Manipur Community Health Officers' Union, Manipur also observed International Nurses' Day at the hall of Indian Medical Association (IMA), Lamphelpat.

Speaking on the occasion, Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) minister Dr Sapam Ranjan stressed the need for honouring the nurses who are taking care of patients regardless of day or night, despite facing inconveniences every now and then.

He then appreciated the sacrifices made by nurses, while acknowledging that nurses play a huge role in spreading health care awareness in their respective areas of posting.

The observance was also attended by H&FW ex-joint director (nursing) Mutum Roma Devi as president, H&FW additional CS Vumlungmang Vaulnam as special guest and State Health Society Manipur Mission director Dr Somojit Ningombam as guest of honour.

Raj Medicity also observed International Nurses' Day at its multipurpose hall here on Thursday.

The observance was attended by Raj Medicity chairman & managing director Haobijam Rajen Singh; Hospital medical superintendent Dr A Ibotombi Sharma and General Surgery senior consultant Dr Ng Narendra Singh as presidium members.

Celin Digital also observed International Nurses' Day on Thursday during which it honoured Horizon Hospital sister in-charge Longjam Rebika Devi with an honorary shawl, citation and simple gift.

The observance was attended by Celin Digital producer Phanjoubam Lanajit Singh, Field Publicity Officer (FPO) Ksh James and RO S Shanti, a press release conveyed.
