Nupi Samaj calls for curbing flesh trade

Citing a recent incident wherein seven girls and some boys were rounded up by village volunteers in Kadangband area for alleged indulgence in immoral activities, Nupi Samaj has called upon all stakeholders to enforce stringent measures to curb such unethical practices in the state.
Addressing media persons at its Lamphelpat office, here, on Thursday, Nupi Samaj advisor Kh Indu said that out of those pulled up by the village volunteers around 7:30 pm Wednesday, the boys were released after proper counselling by the village volunteers while the 7 girls were handed over to Nupi Samaj, which in collaboration with representatives of Meitei Leimarol Sinnai Shang (MLSS), gave counselling before handing them over to their respective family members.
Expressing deep regret over involvement of young girls in such activities for financial purpose, she contended that during questioning the girls disclosed involvement of certain ministers in the illicit sex trade.
As such, advisor Indu cautioned the ministers concerned of unwanted consequences if found guilty of exploiting the youth in flesh trade activities.
While appealing to the women community in the state to take up proactive role in bringing wayward youth to the right track, Indu said that the mothers of Manipur would closely monitor the progress of the seven girls who were reunited with their families.
Any unwanted incident arising out of their potential return to the wrong path would be their sole responsibility, she asserted.
An individual, who was involved in the flesh trade of young boys and girls admit guilt before the media, along with confiding that his involvement in such immoral activities is out financial gains in the form of commission.
The individual, who was also apprehended by the village volunteers of Kadangband and provided necessary counselling, declared to accept any punitive action taken in case of his involvement in immoral activities in the future.
Among others, Nupi Samaj president Th Ramani was also present during the press briefing.
