All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has warned that economic blockade will be imposed on the National Highways from March 14 if the State Government does not implement the demands served by it regarding development of health sector in hill districts.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club, Muan Tombing, president of ATSUM, recalled that a meeting was held with the Chief Minister on November 24, 2013 wherein the latter gave the assurance of implementing the demand of the union within three months.
But instead of fulfilling the demand, the service period of Director of Health has been extended without any concrete reason.
Tombing demanded that the post to be replaced by other before March 14 .
Asserting that the government has also failed to set up Scheduled Tribe Commission as promised earlier, he demanded that the issue should be discussed in the Assembly Session.
The Government should also come out with its definite stand on the issue.
Furthermore, Tombing demanded that vacant post of teachers in hill districts be filled up at the earliest.
