Take Manipur on board before finalisation of Naga solution: UCM

Imphal, August 25 2020: The United Committee Manipur (UCM) has categorically asked the Government of India to take representatives of Manipur on board the Naga peace talks before finalisation of any solution, in case the solution impinges upon Manipur in any manner.

A statement issued by UCM asserted that representatives of Manipur should be made a party of the political dialogue and their views and positions should be taken into account if a separate arrangement should be made within the State of Manipur for Nagas as a part of any solution to the dialogue.

Citing media reports for a possible separate arrangement for Nagas in Manipur, the UCM asked how could any such arrangement be made when no representative of Manipur has ever been consulted in the course of the 23 years old political dialogue.

Nothing would be more disastrous if the Government of India chooses to create a separate arrangement for the Nagas in Manipur on the demand of a single militant group without consulting the people of the State, it warned.

People of Manipur are of the common view that any solution to the Naga peace talk should be confined within the State of Nagaland.

In case, the solution should impinge upon Manipur in any manner, representatives of the State should be made a party of the peace talk.

Inviting CSOs of Manipur for talks after a final solution which infringes upon the collective interest of the State has been already worked out would not be accepted.

Manipur CSOs should be invited to the peace talk before any final solution is worked out and the status of the peace talk should be revealed, asserted the UCM.

Meanwhile, NSCN-IM has put a copy of the Framework Agreement in public domain even though Government of India has been maintaining stoic silence without making any comment.

The Framework Agreement claimed that the Prime Minister of India has recognised the 'unique history of Naga' .

If this claim is true, New Delhi ought to explain the uniqueness of the Naga history, UCM said.

If the Government of India commits the blunder of bulldozing its way without consulting the people, the State Government would be viewed as meaningless and UCM is always prepared to take up appropriate action if such a scenario unfolds, it said.

The State Government too should take up appropriate action if the mandate they carry is not respected, said the CSO.

It also called upon all the people to be prepared to face any eventuality to neutralise and defeat all manoeuvres or conspiracies to disintegrate Manipur.
