IBSD promotes traditional foods, medicinal plants of Mizoram

The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Mizoram Centre has successfully conducted a two days training programme on "Bioeconomy from Bioresources : Promoting Bioresourcesof Mizoram for Viksit Bharat" .
According to a release issued by IBSD, the training was conducted in collaboration with Mizoram Science, Technology & Innovation Council (MISTIC) from May 16-17, 2024 .
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, Director, IBSD, highlighted various research verticals for the development of bioeconomy from bioresources from the NER.
He mentioned that IBSD is organising different outreach activities in NER for societal benefit and to encourage startups in this region.
He also shared that IBSD has established a phytopharmaceutical mission for documentation of traditional healthcare practices and bioresources of NER for their scientific validation, value addition to propel innovations, discoveries and inventions.
"Under this mission, IBSD is exploring ethno-pharmacological perspectives of medicinal plants including their cultivation, sustainable management, chemical profiling and value addition", he added.
Prof Dibakar Chandra Deka, Vice Chancellor, Mizoram University, enlightened the gathering about the various bioresources of Mizoram including bamboo, orchids, fermented foods & beverages which can be explored for their documentation and scientific validation.
Er H Lalsawmliana, Chief Scientific Officer and Member Secretary, MISTIC; Dr Lalchhandami Tochhawng, Principal Scientific Officer, MISTIC; Sandeep Yadav, Scientist and in-charge, Forest Research Centre for Bamboo & Rattan, Mizoram; Dr K Jeyaram, Scientist, IBSD, Sikkim Centre; Dr Jitendra K Shukla, Scientist in-charge, IBSD, Mizoram Centre; and Nilimesh Sarkar, Executive, KVIC, MSME, Mizoram also shared their insight during the training programme.
Faculties, scientists, scholars from MISTEC, Mizoram University, IBSD, Imphal, IBSD, Sikkim and IBSD, Shillong also participated in the programme.
