Govt relents, ATSUM suspends proposed stir

The All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur has decided to suspend its proposed Statewide bandh on May 17 today.
The student body's decision to suspend its proposed stir came after a meeting with the Chief Minister including the whole Cabinet today about 4.30 pm at the CM's chamber.
15 members of ATSUM including delegates of MUTSU led by ATSUM president Joseph Hmar met the Chief Minister including the whole Cabinet after the former received an official invitation from the State Government for talks over their charter of demands.
ATSUM president, Joseph Hmar said that the meeting ended with an agreement to meet again on June 11 for conclusive resolution while all the Ministers assured to provide concrete report on the various questions put up today before the next meeting.
Therefore, all the proposed agitations of ATSUM will be temporarily suspended till the next meeting on June 11, he added.
During the meeting 12 issues including reservations and backlogs in various Government departments were discussed apart from Manipur University and RIMS reservation policy.
ST Commission, MPSC lecturers and Asst Prof issues, B Ed Centres, adhoc teachers, bifurcation of power in Education (S), ST quota in Assembly, JNIMS, MU, DRDA, Home are in the charter of demands of ATSUM.
Meanwhile, ATSUM also decided to send a team to New Delhi to apprise the Union HRD, Tribal Affairs and UGC.
