CorCom announces general strike
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, October 13 2022: Saying that Manipur was allegedly annexed by India on October 15, 1949 and CorCom has been observing October 15 as the 'National Black Day' every year, the committee has announced a general strike from the midnight of October 14 till 5 pm of October 15 .

A statement issued by the Coordination Committee (CorCom) alleged that the Government of India unleashed all kinds of oppressive measures against the people of Manipur soon after it allegedly annexed the erstwhile independent Nation.

Subsequently, Manipuri people suffered a massive blow to its identity, economy, traditions and political life, it said.

The only way to overcome these setbacks is restoration of the lost independence of Manipur by overthrowing the alien rule, it asserted.

In the last 73 years since Manipur was allegedly annexed by India, Manipuri Nation has been passing through a phase of downfall in all aspects of life, the committee said.

As is common in all colonised countries, the economy of Manipur was reduced to the status of a colonial economy.

The Government of India neither allows Manipur to set up modern industry nor accumulate capital, it alleged.

According to the CorCom, the Government of India has conditioned Manipur to depend on its capital.

As everything people need is bought from India, all the money sanctioned by India in the name of development goes back to India.

The banking sector is another sector which collects money from the people of Manipur and sends it to India.

The banking sector has been collecting money from the people in the forms of saving deposit, fixed deposit, insurance premium, loan interest, credit interest etc.

As a result, the economy of Manipur was pushed to a very sorry state.

The situation has been further worsened by the Government of India's economic policy of liberalisation, it continued.

These exploitative economic policies affect all sections of the people but the worst affected sections are daily wage earners.

It would be impossible for the economy of Manipur to become self-reliant under these conditions and this is exactly what is intended by India, the committee alleged.

As its economy is totally dependent on India, Manipur is quite vulnerable to all kinds of Indian influences.

Thus all the evil and corrupt political practices of India have afflicted the people of Manipur, it said.

The successive Governments of Manipur are still unable to provide the political direction and leadership under which all the people and communities of the State can live and prosper collectively.

As a Nation, Manipur (Kangleipak) is sinking, according to the CorCom's statement.

Economic dependence on India has created a number of issues in the State and one such foremost issue is the identity crisis, it said.

A Nation faces serious challenges to its identity when reproduction, production and promotion of traditions are impeded.

In the aftermath of the alleged annexation of Manipur by India, a huge number of non-local people were sent to the State beyond its accommodative capacity and it created a serious demographic imbalance.

These non-local people have now achieved the status of a minority community and they are creating an identity of their own in the name of the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Indian Constitution.

Thus they are challenging the identity of indigenous people, the CorCom alleged.

Even though India has been portraying Statehood granted to Manipur as self-rule or democracy, it is not real democracy.

What is seen in Manipur is a puppet Government which rules the State at the command of their masters, it alleged.

The committee further alleged that the Government of India has been conspiring to create divisions and conflicts among different communities and even within/among revolutionary group(s) .

It also accused the Government of India of luring the youth with intoxicating substances so as to keep them away from the revolutionary movement.

Appealing to all the people to support the 'National Black Day' observation, the CorCom informed that medical services, emergency services, media and religious activities would be exempted from the purview of the general strike.
