Linking Manipur with Mahabharat :: Distorting history unacceptable: AMUCO
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, January 12 2023: Saying that Manipur will become more like a ghost State if we remain mute spectators whenever a misleading statement about the history of Manipur is made and let it pass unnoticed', the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has asked Union Home Minister Amit Shah to tender an apology to the people of Manipur for linking the erstwhile kingdom of Kangleipak with Hindu epic Mahabharat during a public function held at Moirang recently.

In a press release signed by its secretary publicity Laishram Krishnachandra, AMUCO said that they didn't launch a protest against the controversial remark immediately only to give some time to the Union Home Minister to reflect on his speech and tender an apology to the people of Manipur.

Claiming that the remark of the Union Home Minister, however, seems to be an intentioned one as Amit Shah hasn't said anything nor apologised for the 'blunder', AMUCO accused the Central leader of scheming to forcefully distort the history of Manipur.

If the speech of the Home Minister was prepared by a Manipuri then he/she is one of the biggest enemies of the State who may even sell the State for some benefits, AMUCO asserted.

Saying that the statement of Amit Shah also projects Manipur as a land which doesn't have its own myths and legends apart from making him look 'irresponsible', AMUCO continued that the people of Manipur should never buy the cooked narration of 'our history'.

Mahabharat indeed is a big epic (Mahakavya) but from which angle the Union Home Minister put Manipur in there is confusing, AMUCO said and added that Amit Shah is also insulting the writer of the Mahabharat by making up his version of the epic.

"We should not take the statement of the Central leader lightly as it can create bigger problems in future if not clarified," AMUCO reasoned and urged all who can reach out to the Union Home Minister to let him clarify on the 'error'.

AMUCO went on to claim that people can easily perceive how India sees the State from the controversial statement which boldly distorts the history of Manipur.

"Distorting history is totally unacceptable as the State Government had already constituted a 15-member committee to review a book on the history, culture and geography of Manipur before publication on September 15, 2022," AMUCO continued.

"Amit Shah is neither a historian nor a scholar and his statement should not be taken as a political issue but a National question of Manipur" the Union stated.
