Ningol Chakkouba celebrated in State and beyond

Imphal, November 07 2021: Indigenous Minority Socio Cultural Organisation, Manipur (IMSCOM), Indigenous Minority Organisation Manipur ( IMOM), United Peoples' Front (UPF) Manipur, Haomee Research Guild Manipur (HRGM ), National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO), Manipur Peace and Integrity Council ( MAPI council) jointly observed Ching-Tam Ningol Chakkouba at Ima Khunthok Hanbi Sanglen at Thangmeiband.

By the sideline of the celebration, IMSCOM president Momokam Bapui stated that Ningol Chakkouba is one such festival which can be celebrated by every community in Manipur irrespective of caste and religion.

He expressed concern that the festival, however, is losing its attribute to some extent today as many focus on gifts rather than its essence.

Bapui also thanked all the Ningols belonging to different tribes and communities for accepting their invitation and attending the programme in their traditional dresses.

Saying that six lups observed the day by keeping in mind the despair of those Ningols who have none to invite them, Bapui prayed for the festival to strengthen the ties between hills and valley people.

NIPCO president Th Manihar appealed to all to contribute in building a better Manipur.

Ningol Chakkouba was also celebrated in the neighbouring country Myanmar by the Meitei Kathe there.

A press release issued by Myanmar Meitei Development Association (MMDA) conveyed its greeting to all the Ningols belonging to the Meitei/Meetei community on the occasion.

It, however, stated that the road condition of the venue of the festival Teing Seingon/Tek Sikhong village which is situated on the bank of Ningthi River is unpleasant and it causes untold inconvenience to the commuters.

Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF), Guwahati branch in association with its Manipur and Tripura branches and Imoinu Group Assam celebrated Ningol Chakkouba with over 100 women from Bangladesh, Assam, Tripura, Delhi and Manipur at Guwahati, today.

PAWF Manipur president N Khamba Luwang, Guwahati branch president Th Shyam Singh and Tripura branch president G Biplab Sharma attended the programme as presidium members.

PAWF Manipur secretary Rakesh Naorem, eminent writer from Bangladesh Maisnam Rajesh and social activist Khulana Laimayum from Delhi were also present.
