Imphal, June 26 2016: The Joint Action Committee Against Anti-Tribal Bills (JAC) has said that they are overwhelmed and deeply moved by the concern and support shown by MP Biswajit Daimary who in spite of his tight schedules visited Churachandpur on June 25 and 26 to pay homage to the nine tribal 'martyrs' whose mortal remains are still lying unburied at Churachandpur district hospital morgue.

The MP also took a first-hand account of the ongoing tribal movement, said a statement.

During his visit, Daimary also interacted with various tribe leaders including women leaders, and had a long discussion with the JAC where he spelt out his unwavering support and invaluable suggestions for the survival of the prejudiced tribal people in Manipur, the statement added.

He also delivered a short and inspiring speech at the JAC's worldwide mourning and mass prayer programme which was held to mark the 300th day of the tribal movement.

Daimary is the lone MP to have visited Churachandpur to look into the plights of the tribal people of Manipur.

He is also one of the handful of MPs who boldly raised their voice in Parliament against the persistent discrimination and subjugation of the tribal people by the Manipur Government, the statement said.

The lone tribal MP from Manipur, Thangso Baite has shockingly chosen to remain mute for 300 days now for reasons best known to him while his fellow tribals in his very constituency relentlessly continue their struggle against the prejudiced policies of Manipur Government, the statement said.

The JAC sincerely believes that it is leaders like Daimary, with his concern for the tribal people which even extends to those tribes outside his own community, who shall continue to be true guiding lights for the marginalised and vulnerable communities in the days to come.

The JAC also thanked all the organisations and individuals who had extended support in organising the worldwide mourning and prayer programme.
