Book by Nagaland journalist banned

Dimapur, November 18 2014: The Ao Senden, the apex body of the Ao tribe has banned a book written by noted Nagaland journalist on Monday.

The book entitled "Cogitating For A Better Deal" written by Monalisa Changkija, the editor of Dimapur based daily Nagaland Page has been banned with immediate effect.

Monalisa Changkija herself hails from the Ao community.

Ao Senden president Prof.Sangyu Yaden and general secretary Tsupong Longchar, in a release today, said the book has been banned for making false allegations against the sanctity of the statutory apex body of the Ao community (Ao Senden).

Asserting that it honours the constitutional provision and status of freedom of press and expression, the Ao Senden, however, stated that the provision cannot be misused and no one has the power and liberty to write anything without evidence.

The release said the author of the book was summoned to the Presidential Council of the Ao Senden on November 11 to deliberate on the 'false allegations' and 'wrong information' given in the book in connection with the present Changki issue.

The Ao Senden said over the last few weeks, there has been mounting pressure from the general public for misleading the people after release of the book.

Maintaining that if this kind of 'wrong doing' percolates further, it will lead to disaster, the Ao Senden said therefore, after having thorough deliberation on the issue, it decided to stand by its decision to totally ban the book with immediate effect.

This resolution was adopted in presence of all the parties, signed by the author and witnessed by Lanumeren, chairman, Yaongyimsen Village Council, the release said.
