Imphal, November 10 2009: A public meeting was held today at Khurai Lainingthou Awangba Laibung under the aegis of Coordination Committee of Ward No 23, Wangkhei AC in connection with the conduct of police verification by a team of Imphal East district police commandos at the residence of two individuals located at Khurai on the night of November 8 and the search of a person of the same locality by the police team.

The two individuals whom the police conducted the verification on the night of November 8 last have been Oinam Dima (22) son of (L) O Deban of Khurai Thoudam Leikai and Yumnam Kiran (27) of Khurai Ahongei.

The meeting today decided that any information sought by the police within Wangkhei AC should be intimated to the nearest Meira Paibees or clubs or Councilors.

Failure to do so would be the responsible of the department concerned.

The meeting decided to demand the reason for conducting verification on the two persons while also appealing the police not to misguide the two youths - who have also been selected for the police.

The public meeting further demanded the authority concerned - especially the RPF/PLA, to clarify the recent news report of local media that a parts of unlicensed SLR gun was recovered from the official residence of Wangkhei AC MLA and Minister.

It also urged the police department not to submit itself as an agent of gaining political mileage.

It urged the police department to groom its personnel in such a way that people would like to extend cooperation to them instead of having a sense of fear in seeing them.

The public meeting also formed a coordination committee to translate the resolutions into action.

The meeting appointed Thoudam (O) Jibanmala as the chairperson of the coordination committee.

Konthoujam (O) Bimolata, Loukrakpam Ngangbi, and Khuraijam (O) Meena have been appointed as the convenor, co-convenor, and treasurer respectively.

Eight members of the committee were also appointed.

Speaking at the meeting, Consumer Affairs, FCS Minister Y Erabot said the police should not be used as a tool in order to gain political mileage.

The Minister said, some police personnel in civil dress had recovered an almost decayed SLR part at his residence.

The matter was informed to the AICC without taking his consent.

He said the incident was an indication that some vested interests have been using the police at their interest.

He also cited another instance which happened in March 2007 .
