The displaced womenfolk from Ikou who are currently staying at the temporary shelter in Sa-jiwa have decided not to celebrate the Ningol Chakkouba festival this year.
They then appealed to the chief minister to allow all those staying at the relief camps to celebrate the festival from their own homes from next year onwards.
In a press meet held at the temporary shelter in Sajiwa on Saturday, one Takhellambam Ibeyaima, representing the women, urged the CM to ensure all the displaced people are able to return to their homes before the festival next year, considering it as a Ningol Chakkouba gift this year.
While appreciating all those who extended invitations for the festival, she urged all to support the displaced people in returning to their homes.
Mutum Bijenti, who was also displaced from Ikou just a day after her wedding last year due to the conflict, expressed in tears that she could neither return to her parental home nor continue to stay in her new home with her new family.
She appealed to all concerned to helped new brides like her return home and celebrate the festival just like all the others.
Bijenti married S Rojesh of Ikou on May 2 last year but had to flee after the conflict broke out on May 3.She recently gave birth and is now a mother to a two-month old baby.
