Imphal, September 20 2024:
Representatives of the Meetei community have called for swift and firm action against Kuki militants following repeated heavy firing and bombings on Mongbung Meetei village and surrounding areas.
According to a press release issued by Jiri Apunba Lup (JAL), the Meetei villagers are suffering due to continuous attacks by Kuki armed militants, despite the recent search operations conducted by combined security forces in suspected regions.
JAL stressed that these search operations have done little to curb the escalating violence, as Kuki militants continue their assault on Mongbung Meetei village.
Reacting to contention by Kuki organisations, specifically Indigenous Tribal Advocacy Committee (ITAC), Jiribam, Pherzwal, JAL also dismissed ITAC's claim that on September 18 and 19 Meetei insurgent groups attacked on Kuki villages while pointing out that no reports of attacks on Kuki villages by Meetei insurgents have been found to corroborate ITAC's assertion.
Charging ITAC of spreading lies to cover up illegal activities of Kuki militants, the Jiri Lup said Kuki armed militants are repeatedly indulging in violence in the region, a fact that can be easily verified by the security personnel stationed in Mongbung.
JAL also dismissed as 'false narrative' similar condemnation statement issued by at Kuki Inpi, Jiribam, Tamenglong & Noney district.
As proof of Kuki aggression, JAL pointed to the recent killing of Yurembam Kulendra Singh (Kulabi), a Meetei villager who was , murdered in his own bed by Kuki militants.
The press release further stated that four Kuki militants were killed during this incident, three of whom were from Churachandpur, indicating presence of significant Kuki militants in the area.
JAL also called upon state security forces to take immediate and decisive action against the Kuki militants responsible for the violence and cautioned that if the situation continues without intervention, the deputy commissioner of Jiribam and the district police shall have to bear full responsibility for any further loss of life or property due to attacks by Kuki militants.
