Imphal, June 28 2012:
The All India Christian Council (AICC) Thursday said that it does not accept the proposed Act of "Freedom of Religion" recommended by Indigenous People Forum Manipur, saying that Human Rights agencies in India as well as in other countries have termed any act that prohibits conversion of one's religion as Draconian law.
The concept of prohibition on conversion of one's religion in the state of Manipur was first made up by the Indigenous People's Forum at its one-day meeting held on June 28 at Imphal, AICC said in a statement.
Vowing that AICC will take up all sorts of steps to bar the introduction of such proposed act in the state, it accused the Hindutva groups in the states of Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Chchatishagar of abusing the Act which is against conversion of one's religion and that such act violates the rights of the minorities.
AICC also said it suspects that the concept of Indigenous People's Forum is influenced by the Hindutva force.
It appealed the people of Manipur to be conscious that there is a hidden agenda of the Hindutva force to obliterate the unity, integrity and harmony of the people.
