Imphal, November 19 2023:
Asserting that frequent transfer of officials through corrupt practice hinders development initiatives, Thanga Wangma Students' Welfare Association (TWSWA) has appealed to the government to maintain and follow transparent transfer policy.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club, here, on Sunday, TWSWA president Tongbram Jiten said that around 70 per cent of the families in Bishnupur district are fish farmers and the association strongly objects to the government's recent transfer order of district fisheries officer (DFO) Elangbam Rameshwar.
During his stint as DFO Bishnupur for around six months, Rameshwar took up several initiatives for promoting the fishery sector in the district.
His transfer order was issued on November 17, in the middle of a recent initiative to clear decomposed phumdis from Takmu Experimental Fish Farm.
The association takes the transfer order as a blunder on the part of the government and demands the government to keep the officer, who is sincere towards the cause of fish farmers, and to maintain a proper transfer policy, the president said.
He further asserted that they cannot accept the.
new DFO in place of the former especially when the new DFO had a history of corruption in relation with PMSY funding in the past.
He also warned of launching agitation if the government does not revoke the transfer order.
