Imphal, September 25 2021: Chief minister N Biren has asserted that the government did not call out security personnel deployed in Tamenglong district for conducting combing operation to nab culprits involved in the kidnapping and murder of Athuan Abonmai and the Centre will be informed if any camp of NSCN-IM opens in Manipur to evict the same.

The chief minister stated this while responding to a query raised by media persons on the sidelines of inaugurating the Pandit Deen Dayal Up-adhyaya Multi Utility Youth Centre at Haraorou in Imphal East district on Saturday.

When media persons asked if the government had asked security personnel involved in operation conducted at Bunning area of Tamenglong in the aftermath of the killing of Athuan Abonmai to withdraw from the area, N Biren said that the job of the security personnel was to evict armed insurgents and hence people should not be over-anxious of the matter.

He also said that the objective of the government in sending security personnel is to book culprits involved in committing the crime.

On the other hand, the chief minister appealed to people to concentrate more on electing true and sincere leaders instead of joining community feast relating to election.

During the inauguration ceremony organised by Manipur Development Society (MDS), the chief minister further said that the government is always ready to help people who want to work and earn money.

In his speech after inaugurating the Centre, N Biren stated that it will have facilities like gym, television connected to well-informed news channels and other accessories which would be useful for the youth in channelizing their energy in a positive direction.

Informing that construction of nine other multi utility centres is in progress at different places both in hill and valley areas, he also confided that the government is planning to establish 10 other similar facilities.

While recalling vision of social-minded leaders like Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and Syama Prasad Mukherjee for eradicating poverty and advocating oneness of all communities, he iterated that India has achieved substantial growth in many sectors under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the state also witnessing inclusive development in the last four and half years through vigorous implementation of various welfare schemes like Ujjwala, Ayushman Bharat and Jal Jeevan Mission among others.

Further stating that the state government has firm resolve to ensure convenient and affordable access to all services by the people, he urged the public to apply for the Manipur Startup scheme if one has any innovative ideas for starting a project and reminded all concerned that one could avail loan for different kinds of farming-related activities from Manipur State Cooperative Bank Ltd.

The chief minister also stressed the need for the people of Manipur to uphold dignity of labour, inculcate sense of work culture and hard work so as to contribute their in making the state self-reliant.

Regarding a proposal by the locals to construct a mini stadium at YMC Ground, Haraorou, Biren assured to compassionately look into what development project could be initiated under the Khelo India programme.

With reference to the upcoming state assembly elections, he appealed to the public to choose representatives who would work with commitment for the welfare of the people.

Speaking at the programme, Manipur Development Society chairman M Asnikumar appreciated the chief minister for his swift response to any proposal for development projects and asserted that construction of the Multi Utility Youth Centre became a reality under the abled guidance of the chief minister.

He also informed that the centre would provide certain facilities to the youths of Haraorou and would help them in harnessing their positive energies and become responsible citizens with overall knowledge growth.

He also appealed to the youths for proper maintenance of the centre so that its facilities could be utilised for many years.

Inauguration function of centre, constructed by Manipur Development Society (MDS) was also attended by Lieutenant General (Retd) L Nishikanta Singh, Imphal East deputy commissioner Khumanthem Diana, MDS project director Ranjan Yumnam and other officials.

As a part of the event, the chief minister also led the gathering in offering floral tributes to the portrait of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya on his 105th birth anniversary.
