Artisans advised to apply for PM Vishwakarma scheme

In sync with the main event held in Maharashtra attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the first anniversary of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme was celebrated at the office of State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) located at Imphal East DC office complex on Friday.
The celebration function organised by Manipur Society for Skill Development, Department of Skills, Labour, Employment and Entrepreneurship was attended by Imphal East DC Khumanthem Diana, additional DC N Johnson, Imphal East District Zilla Parishad chairperson P December, SIRD director P Gojendro, DIC, Imphal East general manager Hemanta and SLEE joint secretary Hannah Kahmei as presidium members.
Diana informed the gathering said that the PM Vishwakarma scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, 2023 earmarks 18 benefits for artisans of different trades.
The anniversary event is being held to distribute certificates and loan amount to beneficiaries who completed training conducted under the scheme, she said, adding that the event is being held in different parts of the state and country.
According to Khumanthem Diana, a total of 15,736 artisans applied for availing benefits under PM Vishwakarma scheme in Imphal East district with selection of beneficiaries conducted after verification in three different phases.
Selected beneficiaries are trained for either five or seven days and provided tools worth around Rs 15,000.Upon completion of training, each beneficiary is given opportunity to avail loan to expand their business, she said and appealed to artisans to reap benefits of the scheme.
Imphal East District Zilla parishad chairperson P December said that PM Vishwakarma scheme was launched to aid the artisans explore their latent talents through provision of benefits ultimately aimed at bringing overall development in the country.
The Government of India has earmarked Rs 13,000 crore under the scheme which will continue till 2027-28, he said and encouraged artisans to apply for the scheme.
Later, beneficiaries of the scheme hailing from Imphal East district were handed training certificate and loan amount.
The national level anniversary event held at Wardha in Maharashtra was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
