IBSD promotes medicinal plants for Viksit Bharat

In an endeavour to promote Bioresources and sustainable development in Mizoram, Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Mizoram Centre, organised a programme titled "Bioeconomy from Bioresources: Promoting Bioresources of Mizoram for Viksit Bharat" in collaboration with Mizoram Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTIC), Government of Mizoram, on Friday.
According to a statement issued by IBSD, Mizoram Centre, director Prof Pulok Kumar Mukherjee highlighted various research avenues for development from bioresources in the Northeastern Region (NER).
He emphasised IBSD's efforts in organising outreach activities and encouraging startups in the region for societal benefit.
Prof Mukherjee outlined IBSD's phytopharmaceutical mission, aimed at documenting traditional healthcare practices and bioresources of NER for scientific validation and innovation.
Furthermore, Prof Dibakar Chandra Deka, vice-chancellor of Mizoram University, commended IBSD's research and outreach initiatives for fostering bioeconomy from bioresources in NER.
He underscored the potential of various bioresources in Mizoram, including bamboo, orchids, and traditional fermented foods and beverages, for scientific exploration and validation.
H Lalsawmliana, chief scientific officer and member secretary of MISTIC, Government of Mizoram, lauded IBSD's collaborative project outcomes and outreach programmes for promoting traditional healing practices in NER.
Dr Lalchhandami Toch-hawng, principal scientific officer at MISTIC, highlighted initiatives to promote medicinal plants of Mizoram for scientific validation under
IBSD's Phytopharmaceutical mission.
Sandeep Yadav, scientist and in-charge of Forest Research Centre for Bamboo & Rattan, Mizoram, emphasised the bioeconomic potential of bamboo resources in the region.
Dr K Jeyaram and Dr Jitendra K Shukla, scientists at IBSD, discussed starter culture-based production of traditional fermented foods and mass multiplication of medicinal and aromatic plants, respectively.
Nilimesh Sarkar, executive of KVIC, MSME, Mizoram, highlighted various entrepreneurial opportunities available through MSME schemes.
The programme witnessed active participation from stakeholders, beneficiaries, and entrepreneurs, fostering dialogue and collaboration for the development of startups.
Attendees included faculties, scientists, and scholars from MISTIC, Mizoram University, and various IBSD centres from across the northeast region.
