Imphal, January 31 2009:
The Coalition on Children Right to Protection (CCRP) in association with All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) organized a one-day discussion on the topic "Impact of Conflict and Violence to Children in Manipur" at Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak today.
The opening function of the discussion was graced by chairperson of the Manipur State Women Commission, Chairman, Dr Chongtham Jamini as chief guest and AMSU president Khamba Laishramba as guest of honour.
It was presided by Manipur Mahila Kalyan Samiti president M Purnimasi.
Speaking as chief guest, Dr Jamini said heredity and environment where they are living give great influence in mounding future life of the children.
Habit and character are inherited from their forefather while to make as good men depend on the environment he is living.
Now, the time has come to think and discuss on the impacts receiving by the children in the present context of spree of killing and violence in the state.
Today's discussion session was held in two sessions.
In the first session advocate Khaidem Manipur as moderator and editor Imphal Free Press, Pradip Phanjoubam as opinion leader initiated the discussion.
Dr S Bojaoba and Montu Ahanthem talked on the topic of today's discussion.
Initiating the discussion, Pradip said it has become a difficult to tell the nature of the conflict in the state to the children.
When state actors come out with a finding, the same will be rejected by a non-state actor with a contradict statement and will create a confusion even to an adult to justify and pick out the truth of the thing.
In such situation, how children can can know the reality of the thing, he asked observing that if such situation continues in the society, it will be hard keeping hope to children for better society.
For achieving freedom, some part of the freedoms must be sacrifice.
If everybody do whatever they want in the name of freedom, there will no true freedom, he observed adding that so students of today must try with their best effort to live for sake of future generation.
The second session of the discussion on the topic was moderated by senior journalist AK Sanaton and lecturer of the LMS Law College Dr Promod initiated the discussion.
In that Wahengbam Joykumar talked on "Ensuring the Needs of Children to RTI" and Dinesh FXB talked on "Ensuring Educational Needs of HIV/AIDS Affected and Unaffected Children".
