Silk yarn production centre for women to be set up

Director, Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal, Professor Dinabandhu Sahoo has announced that a high quality silk yam production centre solely for women will be set up in the institute through community based participation.
He made the announcement while addressing the inaugural function of three days hands-on training programme on 'Reeling and Twisting of Silk Yam and Dyeing Techniques of Phige and Muga Phi' at the Technology and Skill Development Centre, IBSD, Takyelpat today.
The training programme is being organised by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India under the project 'Development of Composite Sericulture in Imphal District 'Sustaining Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste Livelihood' .
Prof Sahoo said that the centre would provide trainings to a large number of women to promote self employment and enhance income generation.
He informed that resource persons will provide hands-on training on demonstration of local made multi-reeling cum twisting machine, dying techniques of silk yam for Phige, Muga Phi and dyeing techniques of silk fabric during the training programme.
He also informed that reeling machines will also be distributed to identified women SHGs under the project.
A total of 30 women entrepreneurs are taking part in the training programme being conducted under the supervision of Dr T Shantibala, Principal Investigator of the project.
