VILLAGERS OF 17 villages affected by the Mapithel Dam today in a meeting has resolved to fight unto-death till their demands are fulfilled by the government.
The meeting organized by the Mapithel Dam Affected Ching-Tam Organization was held at Rishophung in Senapati district today has discussed thoroughly on the construction of the controversial dam at Mapithel and resolved a 12 points draft resolutions.
The draft resolutions included to oppose the construction of the dam till it is review, demand for equal and reasonable compensations to the affected villages, creation of a special economic package for the downstream, payment of reasonable land compensation to the affected families in the construction of approach roads to the dam site as well as demilitarization to the dam site for allowing free movement of people.
Demand for compensation for the victims in the brutality meted out by the security forces during the November 3 rally at the dam site, to conduct judicial inquiry into the incident, payment of ex-gratia to severely wounded woman, JS Isau of Thangchingpokpi in the security force action also included in the resolution.
The meeting also demanded to bring an amicable solution to the issues related with the Mapithel dam in a peaceful manner between the government and MDACTO and consideration of the claim rise by the village chiefs or headmen.
The villagers present in the meeting had also agreed to extend full support to the activities of the MDACTO.
