Govt trying to end blockade: Gaikhangam

Imphal, July 13 2012: Manipur Home Minister Gaikhangam Friday told the state assembly that the state government's Home Department is currently holding talks with Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP) to end the blockade being imposed along the National Highway-2 by the agitating Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) .

Gaikhangam also told the House whose monsoon session ended today that the individual involved in the hijacking of a mini truck from a Nagaland village is now in the custody of the concerned Judicial Magistrate and that the truck has also been recovered.

The blockade enforced by SAYO along the NH-2 is due to a communication gap with the nieghbouring state of Nagaland, the Home Minister asserted and assured that a solution will be brought soon to end the stalemate.

In another reply to a calling attention motion moved by Opposition MLA L Ibomcha, Gaikhangam said all the fuel outlets in Imphal have resumed normal selling of fuel from Friday after the state CAF and PD minister made an earnest appeal to the oil pump owners and now the people do not need to worry about non-availability of fuel in the state.

He also said the fuel stock will be improved as soon as the ongoing blockade on NH-2 is lifted.

Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing in response to a calling attention motion moved by Opposition MLA Th Shyamkumar, said as per the order issued by Board of Secondary Education, Manipur in 2003, some applicants holding NIOS certificates were rejected and exluded from the recruitment process for filling up some vacancies in the state Social Welfare Department.

Tonsing also informed the House that NIOS certificates were recognized by the state education board before the year 2003 but NIOS students who had not attended regular classes and failed to maintain quality cannot be accepted now.
