Election peaceful in Kakching, Chandel, Tengnoupal

Kakching, March 05 2022: The phase-II election in four assembly constituencies of Kakching district concluded peacefully on Saturday barring some isolated cases of scuffle in Wabagai assembly constituency.

Some scuffles occurred at polling stations located at Wabagai Tera Urak High School (home polling station of NPP candidate Mayengbam Ranjit), and at Keirak Kangjeibung Maning (home polling station of BJP candidate Dr Usham Deben) after agents and supporters of rival candidates were barred from entering the polling stations.

Public rose against the BJP candidate at Kakching Khullen Turel Wangma polling station after the candidate responded rudely to some people who raised objection against his presence inside the polling station at around 5 pm.

He was escorted out from there as the mob became agitated.

Polling continued till 8 pm at polling station no 36/5 at Irong Khunou after the process was halted for some time due to an issue regarding inner agents of some candidates.

Conduct of polling was peaceful in Sugnu assembly constituency.

Speaking to The People's Chronicle, INC candidate MLA Kangujam Ranjit noted that polling has always been peaceful in Sugnu AC since the last two terms.

However, the BJP candidate is trying to .create division among the different villages of the constituency, which used to be the norm in the constituency some two or three decades ago.

He also charged BJP of using muscle power while stating that the police department did nothing to arrest the BJP supporters responsible fqr vandalising 12 vehicles at the house of Congress worker Thingnam Rishikesh.

Instead of arresting those responsible for the act, police arrested an INC supporter on the charge of firing gun among the public.

Such biased nature of the government is only making the public to support INC, he said while expressing confidence that he will retain his assembly seat.

BJP candidate Mayanglambam Binod said that the constituency witnessed active participation from the public and it shows the enthusiasm among the vdters to bring a change by supporting BJP.

Chandel and Tengnoupal assembly constituencies also recorded peaceful polling except for some minor isolated incidents.

District election officials said that it may take till Sunday for all the polling parties to reach the DHQs.

As per reports received till 6.30 pm, Chandel AC reported 78.07 per cent poll while Tengnoupal AC reported 75.38 per cent poll, the officials said.
