Imphal, September 20 2024:
Thadou Students' Association (TSA), General Headquarters, has supported the state government's decision to transfer the investigation into repeated arson and terror attacks on the house of Thadou leader, Michael Lamjathang Haokip, to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
With reference to the attacks carried out on May 7, 2023, and August 25 and 31, this year, a TSA statement disclosed that it had written to the leadership of Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and its associated armed groups - Kuki National Army (KNA), Kuki National Front factions (KNF-S), KNF-MC, KNF-Z), and Kuki Liberation Army (KLA) - regarding their suspected involvement in the attacks to which only KNF(S) responded, denying involvement in the incidents.
TSA, however, noted that the silence of the other groups has deepened suspicion of their role in the coordinated assaults, a "gross violation" of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement between these groups and the government.
TSA emphasised the importance of safeguarding peace-loving leaders like Michael Lamjathang Haokip, who they describe as crucial for the future peace, security, and integrity of Manipur and India.
The association also echoed concerns raised by retired Lt Gen RP Kalita, who criticised ineffectiveness of the state police in maintaining law and order in the Hill districts, particularly in Churachandpur, before and after the recent violence.
TSA called upon both state and central securityforces to restore peace in the hill areas, particularly Churachandpur district, to reassure the public of the government's commitment to enforcing the Indian constitution and ensuring public safety.
The association expressed belief that the NIA's involvement will lead to a thorough investigation, exposing the perpetrators and masterminds behind the attacks.
"The Thadou community sees justice for Michael Lamjathang, his family, and Peniel Thadou village as justice for the entire Thadou people", TSA stated, expressing hope that justice will soon be served and peace restored to the affected areas.
