MoS Annapurna scans Govt facilities in Ukhrul

Ukhrul, April 20 2023: Minister of state for education Annapurna Devi Yadav, who is on a t wo day tour of Ukhrul district, visited various government infrastructures, apart from holding interactions with the district administration, government officials and the public on Thursday.

On the final day of the tour on Thursday, the minister held an interaction programme at the DRDA training hall located within the Ukhrul Mini-secretariat complex attended by Ukhrul deputy commissioner Krishna Kumar, dist rict level officers (DLOs) and beneficiaries of different government schemes.

Speaking during the programme, MoS Annapurna Devi Yadav highlighted how the central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is shifting its attention towards the needs of the rural populations and is endeavouring to enhance the lives of the citizens.

She said that for the benefit of its citizens, the government has initiated various welfare schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Yojana, Matru Vandana Yojana, PM Kisan, Vandhan Yojana and many others.

Annapurna also mentioned that improvement of the education sector in the country is not limited to urban areas, and added that the government is focusing on rural villages and under-developed tribal areas.

At the event, the minister distributed items of various schemes under different government departments to several beneficiaries.

A total of eight beneficiaries received health cards under CMHT and PMJAY, eight received PMFME, MUDRA, and PMEGP schemes from DIC, 65 received alternative seeds and one beneficiary received PMKSY from Horticulture & Soil Conservation Department, and five beneficiaries received benefits under NSFA from CAF&PD.

Similarly, aids and appliances were also distributed under ADIP schemes from DSWO.

During the meeting, several of the beneficiaries expressed both their grievances and gratitude to the visiting minister.

Later, Annapurna Devi Yadav also took a tour of different government facilities and infrastructures including Ava Market (women's market) at Phungreitang, Ukhrul Higher Secondary School at Wino bazar, Awungtang SHGs under VDVK, and District Hospital, Ukhrul at Naga Gate (Hungpung) where she interacted with the people there.

Thereafter, she headed towards Phangrei, a popular picnic spot of the district.

Earlier in the morning, the visiting minister held a meeting with the DLOs at the DC conference hall.

During the meeting, DC Krishna Kumar introduced the district, stating that it has an area of 2206 sq km and a population of 1,35,215 lakhs and is a home for the Tangkhul, Kuki and Nepalese communities.

PowerPoint presentations were also given by various departments like ZEO, ADC, ICDS, District Social Welfare, Health Department, PHED, Agriculture, DIC, Forest Department, Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Manipur State Rural Roads Development Agency (MDRR-DA), Veterinary Department, CAF&PD and E-District.

In the PowerPoint presentation by the ZEO, it was highlighted that altogether there are 271 schools in the district including primary, upper primary, secondary and higher secondary.

It said that the total number of students enrolled in these schools for the academic session 2021-2022 was 29,974 .

The department has introduced various schemes for the students like distribution of free school uniforms and textbooks and financial assistance in the form of stipend to children with special needs, transport allowance, escort allowance, etc.

It further reported that under the 'School Fagathansi Mission', the Department has covered two phases so far.

The ZEO later stated that 16 schools have been facilitated with rain water harvesting.

Meanwhile, ADC Ukhrul reported that construction of 15 numbers of barrack type teachers' quarters and upgradation and extension of 51 schools under State Plan & NLCPR have been accomplished since 2011 till date.

Apart from the public and government officials, the meeting was attended by key officers of the district administration and various departments including Ukhrul SP Ningsem Vashum, DFO S Shanngam, CEO Ukhrul David Kashungnao, ADM Chunglenmang, SDO Ukhrul & Chingai Suranjoy Maibam Singh, SDO Jessami Mangminlen Vaiphei, AC to DC Rohini Kumar, and ACF Amit Khaler among other.

Annapurna Devi Yadav will halt in Ukhrul for the second night.

She arrived in the district on Wednesday.
