CM assures storm aid within five days

Chief Minister N Biren visited several villages in Moirang assembly constituency of Bishnupur district, affected by the May 5 hailstorm, assessed the situation, and assured to start releasing relief funds within four or five days.
The CM visited Sunusiphai, Phubala, Naranseina and Thamnapokpi villages, where he assessed the storm affected houses and interacted with families in distress on Thursday.
Moirang MLA Th Shanti, Loktak Development Authority (LDA) chairman M Asnikumar, Bishnupur deputy commissioner and other district officers accompanied the chief minister, who also interacted with farmers, who suffered crop loss due to the hailstorm.
Interacting with the affected families, Biren said that he had instructed agriculture and horticulture department officials to assess the damages and he would soon get a detailed report.
Once, the report is submitted, the government will provide compensation to the farmers.
As per initial report, over 40 hectares of farms have been damaged and the farmers will be provide assistance under two schemes through the disaster management department and Chief Minister's Relief Fund, he said.
The CM also assured to provide assistance to the families, who houses have been damaged by the hailstorm, within four or five days through the district administration.
He then urged local clubs to provide help in repairing the damaged houses.
Mention may be made that following the widespread hailstorm that swept through the state, farmers in Toubul, Khoijuman, Kwasiphai', Naranseina, Phubala, Sunusiphai, and various other areas within Bishnupur district are grappling with substantial crop damage, exacerbating the already dire situation caused by losses to their homes and infrastructure.
Reports from other affected districts echo similar sentiments, highlighting the widespread impact of the natural disaster on agricultural livelihoods.
Farmers are pinning their hopes on government assistance to help them recover and rebuild.
