A cleanliness drive was conducted at Lilong market on the theme "Clean our city and our village" yesterday.
The cleanliness drive was jointly conducted by Lilong Municipal Council in association with Lilong Police Station, SBI Lilong Branch and All Lilong Anti Drug Association while SBI Lilong Branch donated ten dustbins to Lilong Municipal Council to keep the market clean.
Assistant General Manager, SBI Kamal Khan said the dustbins were donated as part of Corporate Social Responsibility of SBI by SBI Lilong Branch while assuring that the bank will continue to extend help for any social cause.
He further said that SBI Lilong Branch is there for public and urged them to encash on the opportunity provided by the bank.
Chairperson Lilong Municipal Council Wahengbam Binakumari sought cooperation from the public to keep the area under Lilong Municipal Council neat and clean.
She further said that taking into account the problems faced by the public to trade their business in the Lilong Bazar as the market is quite small, an intimation was forwarded to the concerned department from the council to upgrade the market to make the business flourished in the market.
Following which, Rs two crores has already been sanctioned under PDA and a sum of Rs 5 crore under MOBC, she added and said that the public will see the mega renovation work of the market soon.
OC Lilong Police station Oinam Ajit said that the public of Lilong should take a proactive role in maintaining Lilong Bazar area well ordered while adding that cooperation from the public is required to uproot the menace of drugs, alcohol and other substance abuse from the area.
