Imphal, May 18 2024:
The Koireng-led proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) observed its 7th Athoubasing Ningsing Numit on Saturday and remembered all those who sacrificed their lives in the course of liberation movement initiated by the outfit since 1964.According to a statement of the Koireng-led UNLF, the outfit has been observing Athoubasing Ningsing Numit every year on May 18 since 2018 and this year's observance too had been conducted at different places of Manipur and outfit's base camps.
Despite facing challenges of the ongoing proxy war, the 7th Athoubasing Ningsing Numit was observed at the party's central headquarters, general headquarters of MPA, headquarters of external affairs department, headquarters of different departments of the party both inside and outside Manipur, the statement said, adding that different units of the party's armed wing also observed Athoubasing Ningsing Numit.
The highlights of the Athoubasing Ningsing Numit observance were lowering of party's flag at half-mast, fasting from 5am to 5pm, paying floral tributes to martyrs, observing a two-minute silence in honour of martyrs and reading out the central committee's message given on the occasion, the Koireng led UNLF statement issued by its publicity secretary M Shak-Hen said.
Meanwhile, the message of the central committee of the outfit extended revolutionary honour to UNLF/MPA fighters, deceased leaders and functionaries and all those who sacrificed their lives during the course of liberation movement for restoration of the lost sovereignty of Manipur.
The central committee also extended revolutionary honour to all those men and women who were brutally killed while defending the attack by 'Mayang administration' supported armed Kukis since May 3, 2023.The message also emphasised the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by brave men and women of the land and urged party members to draw inspiration from the martyred souls and carry forward the movement.
According to the message of the central committee, UNLF/MPA has been continuing liberation movement since its inception to bring about an egalitarian society where people could live independently with dignity and self-sufficiency by restoring the lost sovereignty of Manipur snatched by India on October 15, 1949 through forcible merger.
Scores of UNLF/MPA fighters have lost their lives at the hands of the enemy (IOF) during course of liberation movement while many are still living with disability owing to torture meted out by IOF.
Unfortunately, intense attempt amidst the long liberation movement is being made since the part 3/4 years to uproot the outfit by a group deviated from liberation movement in collusion with India government and state government.
On one side, India is trying to convert the long liberation movement of Manipur as an 'ethnic war' by allowing the armed Chin-Kuki they brought from Ava (Myanmar) taking advantage of political crisis in the neighbouring country along with the Kukis already settled in Manipur and long raised by them (India) to wage war against the Meitei people.
In the shadow of tackling the ongoing war, India with its nearly one lakh forces deployed in Manipur is chalking out a strategy to uproot liberation movement by cornering revolutionaries as well as village volunteers who came out to counter the attack of Chin-Kuki in collusion with India to distort unity and integrity of the land.
Nevertheless, there is advantage amidst such unfavourable situation as revolutionaries who came out through numerous challenges always have highest spirit of patriotism and this must not be forgotten by the people.
On the other hand, the artificial war orchestrated by India and their secret ploy to break apart Manipur is gradually being realised by the people of Manipur and revolutionaries must take advantage of the situation to bring together the people and never to go by emotion, the message said and stressed the need for developing UNLF as a progressive party.
