Tributes paid to RKCS on his birth anniversary

Imphal, October 13, 2013: Describing Rajkumar Chandrajitsana Singh, popularly known as RKCS, as a doyen in the domain of fine arts in Manipur, MLA of Keishamthong A/C L Ibomcha has expressed unhappiness over the indifferent attitude of the State Government towards such a personality.

Speaking as Chief Guest of the 89th birth anniversary observance of RKCS held under the aegis of RKCS Museum of Arts and Crafts here today, MLA Ibomcha pointed out that in appreciation of the contribution made by RKCS in the field of fine art, the Government of Manipur could at least put up his paintings on the walls of Secretariat and other important Government offices.

If RKCS had been born in some other States or countries, then his fame and popularity would have been even more known widely.

There is also the need to patent the paintings of RKCS so as to ensure they are not copied by other painters, he added.

Participating in the observance as Guest of Honour, Director of Art and Culture Dr K Sobita said that works of RKCS are of great historical value and importance.

Before use of Camera became vogue in Manipur, RKCS had done many paintings chronicling the history of Manipur.

During the observance function presided over Chairman of RKCS Museum of Arts and Crafts RK Gopalsana, the congregation made floral offering to the photograph of the departed painter.

As part of the observance, a painting competition for school children was also conducted.

In the Group-A category (class II to V) of the competition, Ayekpam Raghumani of Brighter Academy, L Rohit of Don Bosco School and Gaitri Ayekpam of Brighter Academy won the first, the second and the third prize respectively.

In the Group-B catgory (Class VI and above), Ksh Gopinath of Bhakti Vedanta Institute Mission Higher Secondary School won the first prize, Malemnganba Waikhom of Shishu Nistha Niketan won the second prize while the third prize was bagged by Yumnam Rahul of Wangkhei High School.

A pioneering artist of Manipur in his own right, RKCS was born as the second son of RK Yumjaosana at Keishamthong Longjam Leirak on October 13, 1924. He was a born artist whose creative genius was evident very early in life through his paintings on mythological and cultural themes.

RKCS died on November 20, 2004 .
