CM assures job to one each family member in state
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, November 12 2022: While claiming that time has come for the people to be prosperous as the BJP is in power, chief minister N Biren said that the present government is working towards providing direct or indirect job to at least one member of every family of the state.

While making the announcement at the launch ceremony of Venture Fund for Manipur Start-up Scheme 2.0 at Hotel Imphal, here, on Saturday, Biren maintained that his government's aim is to provide source of income to every family of the state and this will be possible when at least one member in each household is facilitated to have source of earning.

Venture Fund for Manipur Startup Scheme 2.0 was launched in collaboration with North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd, (NEDFi) during a workshop jointly organised by the Planning Department and the Department of Promotion of Internal Trade, Government of India.

Addressing the gathering, Biren said that the government has taken up various schemes and initiatives to provide direct or indirect job to every household of the state.

Since the formation of the BJP government in 2017, priority is being been given to generate employment for as many youth as possible by taking up the Manipur Startup scheme and around 6,000 Startups have been extended financial assistance under the scheme so far.

Investment made by NEDFi has also made it possible for many Startups to expand their operations, he added.

According to CM Biren, Startup scheme has been opening up avenues to entrepreneurs to expand their undertakings and to turn the youth from job seekers to job creators.

Stating that youth are the future of the state, he informed that Rs 10 crore each for Imphal West, Imphal East and Churachandpur district have al ready been sanctioned for setting up Youth Skill Centre and Rs 5 crore each for Senapati, Ukhrul and Chandel districts.

Stating that various initiatives like Go to Village and Go to Hills were initiated to bring inclusive development across the state, Biren contended that the state is marching towards development with bandh and blockade becoming a thing of the past.

He continued that a senior officer of the government had been given in charge of each sub-division of Manipur to ensure that infrastructure development covers every nook and corner of the state.

The chief minister further said that various meetings are being held to streamline development works and to ensure its progress.

While mentioning about the development works including construction of 7-storeyed government quarters at New Checkon, Sangai Ethnic Park, Amusement Park at Thengu Chingjin and Heritage site at Makhel, Biren maintained that the state may reach a higher level of development if the development process continues in the same pace.

Expressing concern that only a few people with innovative ideas had approached for getting the benefit of the Startup scheme, the chief minister stressed the need for youth to get expertise in the IT sector as the world is advancing rapidly with the coming of 5G service.

The state is lagging in the information technology sector in-spite of the fact that youth of Manipur have lots of talents and discipline compared to youth in other states.

Informing that the corpus fund set aside for the Manipur Startup Scheme has been increased from Rs 30 crore to Rs 100 crore, CM Biren appealed to youth of Manipur to take benefit of the scheme and expressed confidence that the state would achieve the goal of becoming the first state to have an income earner in every family.

During the programme, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the government of Manipur and NEDFi.

The chief minister also distributed prizes to the winners of Techstar Startup Weekend organised by MIT.

Eco Youth from CIPET was given the first prize with a cash award of Rs 25,000, Alleviate from MIT with Rs 15,000 for the second prize and Tanja from MTU was awarded with Rs 10,000 for the third prize.

Consolation prizes were also awarded to other startups.

NEDFi chairman and managing director PV Murty stated that launching of first ever Venture Capital for Startup to encourage the youth to come up with viable propositions would be memorable in the history of Manipur.

It is through the initiative of chief minister N Biren Singh that the state has come up with the launch of venture capital before other states could do, he added.

Stalls were also set up by some startups at the campus of Hotel Imphal.

The inaugural session was followed by technical sessions on different topics.

Chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, additional chief secretaries MH Khan and V Vumlunmang, director (planning) N Kulkarani Devi, officials of the department for promotion of industry and internal trade, NEDFi, academicians and entrepreneurs also attended the programme among others.
