Imphal, December 10 2009: Several recommendations were sent to the government to take up necessary actions with regards to the violence against women in the state, however, none of the recommendations has been approved as of yet by the government, stated Dr.Ch.

Jamini Devi, chairperson, Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) while observing the 3rd foundation day of MSCW held here today.

Speaking at the observance, Dr.Ch.

Jamini expressed deep concern over the women of Manipur by stating that maximum number of women in the state is unaware of the MHRC where they could fight for their justice without spending a single paise.

Revealing the campaigning of the National Women Commission for distribution of equal wages of men and women, she stated that it is still not prevalent in the entire country.

While stating that the other state commissions have their own police wings, she urged the government to look into the matter so as to expedite the matters related to the women of Manipur.

Also speaking on the occasion was Dr Nara, an ex-MLA who deeply expressed his concern over the corruption prevailing in the society.

Dr.Nara, former minister stated that the violence against women cannot be curbed without the prevention of corruption.

Women empowerment awareness cannot be one sided, the entire people of the state must fight together to bring a better society, stated the former minister.

Meanwhile, Linjaneng, member MSCW while stating the achievement of MSCW revealed that initially the people of the hill districts did not send their girl children to schools, rather they were made to confine at home doing the household works.

Presently the girl children are sent to schools by the parents.

Such transformation was brought in the hill districts following the order issued by the government and campaign by MSCW to arrest the parents who did not send their children to the schools, added the MSCW member.
