AR pays tribute to bravehearts

A wreath laying ceremony was conducted today at Mantripukhri, Imphal in honour of NK/GD Kama Bahadur Rai, KC, Lnk (GD) Sai Bahadur Tamang, Lnk (GD) Beg Bahadur Chhetri, Lnk (GD) Bir Bahadur Tamang and G/ Lnk (GD) Tek Bahadur Chhetri of 4 Assam Rifles who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the Nation.
The wreath laying ceremony was organised by Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South).
According to a release issued by PRO of HQ IGAR(S), the ceremony commenced with the laying of wreaths at the War Memorial followed by a motivational speech addressing all ranks and narrating the inspiring story of the bravehearts.
A total of 2 Officers, 13 Junior Commissioned Officers and 30 Other Ranks of Assam Rifles paid tribute by laying wreaths and presenting Guard of Honour.
The bravehearts demonstrated remarkable bravery & dedication during various operations- On May 8, 1962, an area domination patrol consisting of one Officer, one JCO and 20 OR was launched at Imphal, Manipur.
The party came under heavy fire by NSCN (IM) cadres at 1000 hours on May 8, 1962.The party showed raw courage and immediately carried out a counter-fire drill bringing effective fire and killed two NSCN (IM) cadres.
Late Karna Bahadur Rai sustained bullet injuries during the intense firefight and got martyred on May 8, 1962, bravely sacrificing his life for the Nation.
Also, Late Sal Bahadur Tamang, Late Beg Bahadur Chhetri and Late Bir Bahadur Tamang attained martyrdom while fighting insurgents at Mokokchung-Tuensang Road on May 8, 1962.Tek Bahadur Chhetri also displayed remarkable bravery while fighting insurgents at Imphal-Ukhrul Road and made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on May 8, 1962 .
