Imphal, May 08 2009:
At least four vehicles plying on NH-39 damaged Friday in the stoning by protestors imposing Senapati district bandh today on the alleged failure on the part of the authority to make regular supply of public distribution (PDS) items to the fair price shops agents of the district.
As many as 25 inter-state passenger service bus and more than 150 goods ferrying trucks proceeding toward Imphal from various places outside the state stranded at Mao gate owing to the 24-hour Senapati district bandh imposed by the Fair Price Shops and Agents Association, Senapati district.
Windshields of at least four goods carrying trucks out of around 10 heading towards Imphal were broken down in the stoning by some miscreants suspected to be bandh supporters at Tadubi along the stretch of the highway.
In the aftermath of the breaking of the windshields of the trucks, around 10 trucks remained stranded at Tadubi fear over of attacking by the protestors.
Another reports form Mao gate said 25 inter-state passenger buses arriving this morning stranded there owing to the bandh which is more affective at Mao area as all shops and other establishments in the hill town bordering with Nagaland.
The report also further said more than 150 trucks arriving there also stranded unable to proceed Imphal with commercial goods as they were blocked by the protestors.
The district level bandh which commenced from last midnight was called in protest against the failure on the part of the district authority of Senapati district to supply PDS items regularly to the fair price shops stating that it has hampered in making on time distribution to the beneficiaries.
It will be ended at midnight tonight.
