Tamenglong, January 07 2010: The efforts put in by the doctors and nurses of Tamenglong District Hospital under the Rogi Kalyan Samiti have resulted in saving the lives of many sick patients in the hospital however, as many as 17 patients lost their lives and 110 sick patients were also sent to state capital last year.

A highly placed source said that as many as 17 sick patients had lost their lives at the District Hospital Tamenglong.

Out of the 17 dead, eight are male and nine are female.

Another 110 sick patients both serious and simple cases were referred to RIMs and JN Hospital, Imphal for further investigations and treatment, the source said.

Out of 110 sick patients that were sent to RIM/JN hospital for further investigations and management, 56 are males' patients and 54 females.

The reasons for referring to the RIMs/JN hospital Imphal are lack of blood banking, operation threatre and non posting of genealogist and other health specialist in the district Hospital, the source said.

The cases referred include road accidents, hypertensions, heart cases, bleedings, appendices, Anti Partum Humorage (APH), malaria PF +ve, encephalitis and till birth in pregnant women.

Even the simple cases of operation had to be referred to RIMs or JN hospital situated in the state capital, leading to heavy expenditure for the patients family.

More than five sick patients lost their lives on the way to the state capital while going for further treatment.

As many as 274 pregnant women successfully gave birth to new babies during 2009 here at the district hospital, the source said.

Out of 274 new born babies 146 are said to be male and other 128 are females' babies.

It may be also noted here that some pregnant women preferred home delivery and sometimes some women were forced to go back from the district hospital.

In the meantime, Regional Evaluation Team, headed by BB Sinha, Evaluation Officer and Prabha, Regional Evaluation Team Govt.Of India began their visit to the Tamenglong district since yesterday to monitor and evaluate the ongoing National Rural Health Mission RCH II service.

The team visited the DPMU office, District Hospital, PHSCs of Dailong and Model Village today.

The team will be visiting the CHC Nungba and PHC Noney tomorrow.

Dr.Chambo Gonmei, Chief Medical Officer Tamenglong accompanied the teamon the inspection.
