Price rise: AMSU demands resignation of CAF & PD Minister

Imphal, September 10 2015 : All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has demanded resignation of CAF & PD Minister Moirangthem Okendro on moral grounds for his alleged inability to curb price rise in the State.

Earlier on Thursday, AMSU volunteers numbering about 100 conducted a surprise drive against all shops at Thangal bazaar, Nagamapal and Masajid Road in the heart of Imphal city.

Many of the grocery shops were found selling consumer items at exorbitant prices.

Some shops were selling PDS rice and that several adulterated rice bags were detected during the drive.

The AMSU volunteers pulled out some of the adulterated rice bags from the shops and destroyed them in anger.

Several bags of onion and other items were also destroyed by them for selling at higher price.

But the AMSU volunteers were driven away from the area by a team of City Police.

Later, they informed all shop owners not to sell essential commodities at higher price using a loud speaker.

AMSU had earlier on September 7 warned all grocery owners not to sell goods at excessive rate and to display price lists.

The State has been hit by shortage of essential commodities for weeks due to the landslide at Nagaland's Phesama and the breakdown of the Barak bridge.

But, the two lifelines�National Highway 2 and National Highway 37� have been restored and transportation began since late Wednesday.

At a press meet at AMSU headquarter in DM College campus, union secretary general Manjit Sarangthem demanded that the CAF & PD Minister should resign on moral grounds as he has allegedly failed to take up measures to curb the sustained price rice.
