State directed to follow PNDT Act strictly

Following strict instructions from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for following the rules and regulations of Pre-Natal Diagnostic Technique (PNDT) Act, the State Family Welfare Department has started the process of submitting relevant reports to the Centre.
The State Nodal Officer, PNDT, Family Welfare Department, told Hueiyen Lanpao that according to the PNDT Act, pre-determination of sex of an unborn child is not allowed and is punishable.
All the Ultra Sound machines being used in private diagnostic centres and hospitals should also be registered under appropriate authority of the State PNDT, Family Welfare Department.
The State Nodal Officer further informed that at present there are altogether 58 registered Ultra Sound machines in the State which are being used in different government hospitals, private hospitals and diagnostic centres.
Among these, seven are in hill districts.
Unregistered Ultra Sound machines installed in two hospitals and another two installed in private clinics have been impounded by officials of Family Welfare Department, he disclosed.
He also explained that for registering an Ultra Sound machine,the concerned hospital or clinic has to fill up the 'A' form and deposit an amount of Rs 35,000 in case of a hospital and Rs 25,000 in case of private clinics.
The registration would have to be renewed after every five years.
In consonance with the instructions of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the State Family Welfare Department has started submitting reports to the centre after every three months, he added.
