Imphal, March 21 2010: Workers' Union, Manipur would be introducing a new scheme called Livelihood Guarantee Scheme, which would guarantee 20 days of work in a month to an individual, secretary of the Union Joy has announced on the occasion of the 3rd foundation day of the Union here today.

Giving the welcome address of the foundation day function held at Nupi Lan Memorial Complex, Joy informed that the proposed new scheme would be launched in April this year on experimental basis by selecting 30 youths who are willing to work.

In case, the assured work days of 20 in a month could not be ensured, then the selected youth would be given wages at the rate of Rs 150 for each of the unfulfilled work days, Joy said, adding that there would be no dearth of work for the unemployed youth in Manipur provided they are willing to work and are not too choosy.

MLA T Mangibabu and chairperson of Imphal Municipal Council M Ranisana Devi attended the function as chief guest and president respectively.

Joint Director of MAHUD W Bhaktaraj; advisor Workers' Union, Manipur Prof N Mohendro and Member Secretary of Manipur Pollution Control Board K Jagishwar were also present at the occasion as guests of honour.

Speaking as chief guest, MLA Mangibabu observed that as it would be impossible for the Government alone to ensure job to all the unemployed youth in Manipur, there is the need to strengthen the voluntary organisations.

So voluntary organisations like Workers' Union, Manipur should be encouraged by the Government.

Unemployed youth should also not be choosy and understand the dignity of labour, the MLA said.

In her presidential address, Ranisana said every household within Imphal Municipal Council should be customers of Workers' Union, Manipur and help in picking up the solid wastes from every houses.

This would ultimately lead to proper management of the solid wastes and help in keeping the Imphal city neat and tidy.

Bhaktaraj informed the gathering that the Departments concerned would start finding out newer scientific method of management and disposal of solid wastes generated from every households in Imphal Municipal area and Imphal city.

The Govt would also look into other possible initiatives that could be extended to the Workers' Union, he further informed.

Stressing that proper management of solid waste is essential for a neat and clean environment, Jagdishwar said onus of this responsibility should rest on the shoulder of each and every individual.

Prof Mohendro stressed on proper study on management of the solid waste generated in Imphal Municipality area and implementation of the public laws diligently.

During the function, inspectors of Workers' Union, Manipur have also been honoured with gifts.
