Imphal, February 06 2010: At least two persons have died while same others including a driver sustained injuries in road mishaps at Imphal east and Churachandpur districts.

A fatal accident happened along Napet Palli under Lamlai police station in Imphal East district at about 6.30 last night.

One sand laden truck coming from Nongren side collided head on with a van coming from the opposite side, said a police source.

In the collision, MC Themrei (21), MK Themsang (26) of New Salem village who were travelling in the van sustained injuries together with MK Abel (31) who was at the wheel.

But Themrei succumbed to the injuries at Raj Polyclinic at about 6.30 this morning.

It is reported that Themsang and Abel are undergoing treatment in critical conditions at JN Hospital.

In Churachandpur district, an 18-year-old youth was killed today in a mishap that occurred along the Guite Road at around 12 noon.

Information received from Maukot village said the illfated Shaktiman was loaded with fire-woods when the mishap occurred in between Suangdoh and Tuivel village.

Our CCpur correspondent identified the deceased as one Manglalmuan son of (L) Goumang of Maukot village, the only bread earner of the family.

The victim left behind his aged mother.

Others onboard had a miraculous escape.

As the truck owner and the deceased family had discussed the matter in traditional lines the body of the deceased may not be brought here for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, driver of a Tata Magic who was thrashed by a group of people on the charge of speeding away after ramming an individual succumbed to the injuries today.

Laishram Shyam (55) of Wangjing Hodamba Mamang Leikai rammed one Md Ayub Khan (55) of Sangaiyumpham with his Tata Magic at Khangabok in the afteroon of February 4, said another police source.

On the charge that Shyam tried to speed away without attending to the injured Ayub, a group of people chased Shyam and thrashed him severely.

As he sustained multiple injuries, Shyam had been undergoing treatment at RIMS but he succumbed at about 7 pm yesterday.

The corpse has been handed over to family members after post mortem at Lilong PHC today.
