Ten Myanmarese nationals arrested in CCpur

Imphal, February 05 2023: A total of 10 Myanmarese nationals were arrested from Vaal Veng in New Lamka of Churachandpur district by teams of Churachandpur police station and women police station on Sunday.

The teams conducted search operations in and around Vaal Veng area on the basis of specific information and detected the illegal emigrants, who had reportedly been shifting locations to avoid arrest.

After a hot chase in the fields, 10 suspected illegal Myanmarese nationals were rounded up, said a source in Churachandpur police.

The arrested individuals were identified as Zinmai (50), wife of Aung Khai of Monywa; Kyu Kyu (20) daughter of Kyi Soe of Mongwa; Thi Thi (25) daughter of Oophone of Monger; Soe Soe (20) daughter of Oophone of Mongwa; Khin Khin (25) wife of Naing Win Tun of Mongwa; Khin Moh Moh Zaw (20) daughter of Zaw Htet of Mongwa; Zawn Htet (45) son of Than Aung of Mongwa; Aung Khaing (47) son of Nyo Win of Mongwa; Naing Win Tun (23) son of U Than Tun Naing of Mongwa; and Lalthakima (52) son of Vanlalmuana of Tahan, all in Myanmar.

On preliminary verification, they admitted that they came to Churachandpur on different dates and years from Myanmar and took shelter secretly at Vaal Veng village, New Lamka.

Accordingly, they were arrested at 4:35 pm Sunday for entering India illegally and a case has been filed under Section 14 of Foreigners Act at Churachandpur Police Station for investigation.

Mention may be made that on January 26, a joint team of police and special commandos had arrested 80 Myanmarese nationals for crossing into the Indian territory along the Moreh sector without any valid papers and allegedly planning to set up a new village in Tengnoupal district along Manipur's border.

The Myanmarese nationals, including nine minors, who had crossed into Manipur through a point between border pillars 75 and 76, are being kept at the foreigner detention centre at Manipur central jail, Sajiwa in Imphal East district.

The combined team rounded up the illegal immigrants from New Selbung and neighbouring Lhangcham village, about 7 km south of the border town of Moreh.

It is also pertinent to add here that three Myanmar refugees escaped from a temporary prison at Churachandpur district headquarters earlier in January.
